Dominick David Adamson, 21, has been charged with two second-degree felony counts of theft of a firearm in connection with a vehicle burglary in May

According to documents filed in support of the arrest, a complainant told St. George Police officers Saturday afternoon that three firearms were taken from his vehicle that was parked in front of the residence during the first week in May and claimed the incident coincided with a string of thefts and vehicle burglaries that were reported in the area.

The party also told police he hadn’t discovered the property was missing until shortly before he called police. He said that two rifles, both equipped with precision scopes, along with a revolver were taken from the pickup truck, which was parked in front of his residence off Brigham Road. He reported that several boxes of ammunition and other items were also missing.

In all, the property reportedly taken was valued at several thousand dollars.

Investigators learned that on May 20, less than two weeks after the incident, a rifle matching one of the long guns taken from the pickup truck was recovered from a vehicle during a traffic stop in St. George.

At the time of the arrest, the officer suspected the rifle was stolen, but when he ran a check on the serial number, it had not been listed as stolen in the National Crime Information Center, since the owner was not aware it was missing until Saturday.

Investigators that Adamson was the one suspected of taking the guns, the report alleges. The suspect reportedly hid the guns in a ditch in the Little Valley area and later retrieved them and went shooting with friends.

On Monday evening, the officer went to the jail in Washington County to speak to the suspect, who was being held following his arrest on May 20 for an unrelated misdemeanor vehicle burglary and several warrants. But shortly after the officer arrived, the report states, the suspect said he wanted an attorney present and declined the interview.

He was charged with two second-degree felony counts of theft of a firearm on Monday. One of the warrants the suspect was arrested on was issued following a business burglary reported on Feb. 26 in Draper City, where officers responded to a factory outlet store shortly after midnight.

Video footage showed a suspect force his way into the building, and 30 minutes later, the suspect walked out with approximately $300 in stolen property, police say.

The suspect was spotted the following day when he returned to the area and one of the employees of the business recognized him from the security footage. Draper City Police officers responded and identified the suspect as Adamson, who was arrested shortly thereafter.

Property reportedly taken during the incident was later found on the suspect prior to being transported to the Salt Lake County Jail jail facing a third-degree felony burglary charge. He was released shortly thereafter and the warrant was issued when he failed to appear for a hearing in the case that is still pending.

Three weeks earlier, the suspect was arrested again by officers in Draper City for suspected DUI and third-degree felony endangerment of a child after he was reportedly found at a car wash “acting erratic” with a minor in the vehicle. He was booked into jail in Salt Lake City and released shortly thereafter. A warrant was issued in that case after he failed to appear for a hearing.

Adamson was identified in another case in Washington County involving the theft of a black Dodge Challenger reportedly stolen from East Dinosaur Crossing Drive in St. George during the early morning hours of April 22. In that case, officers learned that a suspect, later identified as Adamson, “made a phone call to an anonymous party around the approximate time the victim’s vehicle was stolen asking to hide a Dodge vehicle,” the officer noted.

The vehicle was recovered a few blocks away several weeks later and the suspect, who was already in custody from the May 20 arrest, was charged with second-degree felony vehicle theft.

That case is one of six criminal cases filed this year that are still pending in the courts. A review of court records also revealed that since December 2020, Adamson has racked up numerous misdemeanor and felony charges in a dozen criminal cases filed in several jurisdictions across the state.

In the most recent case, the suspect made an initial appearance in 5th District Court in St. George on Wednesday and remains in jail on $5,000 bail.
