ST. GEORGE — A woman who was the passenger on a motorcycle traveling south on Interstate 15 between Bunkerville and Moapa, Nevada, was killed late Thursday afternoon after first responders said she and the driver were thrown about a football field away from the bike.
Cpt. Spencer Lewis with Mesquite Fire and Rescue told St. George News the unidentified woman in her early 50s was declared dead at the scene. The male driver of the motorcycle, also in his early 50s, had to be taken by a Mercy Air helicopter to a trauma center in Las Vegas.
Lewis said as of Friday he was “doing well” but still in the intensive care unit.
The Clark County Fire Department took lead on attending to the victims, with Mesquite assisting. The Nevada Highway Patrol is still investigating the incident, which appears to have involved no other vehicles on the scene other than the motorcycle.
Lewis said the position of the motorcycle passengers suggested that at the very least, speed was involved.
“The motorcycle was about a hundred yards away from the two patients so significant speed was involved,” Lewis said. “Right now we don’t have any of the cause. The driver’s still not talking due to medical reasons.”
