ST. GEORGE — Ryan Sullivan was selected as the county’s new clerk/auditor in a special election held Tuesday evening by the Washington County Republican Party’s Central Committee.
Sullivan won the special election with 55.9% of the delegate vote and will replace former County Clerk/Auditor Susan Lewis who resigned May 17 due to her family moving out of the county. Sullivan, who has been the interim clerk/ auditor, will serve the remainder of Lewis’ term in office.
Marlee Meyers, Tim Taylor, Brett Tolly and Larry Mulcock also vied for the clerk/auditor’s position.
Lewis was also originally voted in as the clerk/auditor through a special election held in August 2021 following the retirement of former County Clerk/Auditor Kim Hafen. She retained the position after winning the 2022 general election.
In Washington County, the county clerk/auditor is an elected position that oversees elections, maintains and examines the county’s financial records and prepares the annual county budget. The office also assists in calculating annual property tax values, in conjunction with the county assessor’s office, and issues county business and marriage licenses.
