ST. GEORGE — The basketball season goes year-round, and local prep players have a chance to learn how the Trailblazers do it.

Utah Tech men’s basketball coaches and players will hold their annual youth basketball camp Monday, June 5 and Tuesday, June 6 on the campus of Utah Tech University.

“We’ve been doing this for quite a while now,” Utah Tech head coach Jon Judkins told St. George News. “It’s a great way to give back to our community and teach these young kids that love the game of basketball.”

Judkins has had a busy recruiting season, one that is ongoing.

So far Utah Tech has landed junior college transfer Jaylen Searles, a 6-foot-8 forward. Prep guards Angelo Kambala and Aric Demings are coming to St. George along with prep swingman Tennessee Rainwater.

Hawai’i transfer guard Beon Riley rounds out a group of five soon-to-be Trailblazers loaded with potential.

“And there’s more to come,” Judkins said.

None of the newcomers will be at the upcoming youth camp but there will be several current Trailblazers and coaches on hand to teach youngsters at a one-on-one level.

“I like that,” Judkins said. “It’s fun and the coaches love it. Basketball is really one of those things that you have to do for the whole year, and we love getting to meet these kids.”

The youth camp will feature two sessions. The first is open to any and all entrants going into kindergarten through 6th grade. It costs $95 with a camp T-shirt provided. It will be conducted from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. June 5-6 at the Utah Tech Human Performance Center.

Online registration for session one is available here.

The second session is open to any and all entrants going into 7th through 12 grade. It costs $95 with a camp T-shirt provided. It will be conducted from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 5-6 at the Utah Tech Human Performance Center.

Online registration for session two is available here

No refunds will be provided for either session unless it is COVID-19 related or verifiable injury.

“We’ll work on fundamentals, have some games and contests. There will be lots of fun things to do,” Judkins said.
