B2Z: Premier Health and Wellness offers a unique approach in treating depression, promoting healing

SOUTHERN UTAH — B2Z is a new Canyon Media production created to give the community a personal, in-depth look at some of the most unique and amazing businesses in Southern Utah. In this episode, host Carrie Bunker met with Dr. Sid Young, the president and owner of Premier Health and Wellness, to learn more about their unique approach to treating depression.

Premier Health and Wellness targets treatment-resistant depression with transcranial magnetic stimulation. A relatively new mental health methodology, TMS is a noninvasive procedure that uses short magnetic pulses to stimulate nerve cells in areas of the brain known to be associated with major depression. Studies have shown that increased activity in these areas helps to ease depression symptoms and improve mood.

“It goes in and it reawakens the limbic system, and in so doing, the neurotransmitter serotonin is excited and released into the body,” Young said. “It helps produce serotonin.”

At Premier Health and Wellness, patients are enrolled in counseling while undergoing TMS. Fitness and mindfulness are also key components of Premier Fit, the clinic’s mind-body-soul approach to healing.

“We evaluate their nutrition, we evaluate their sleep, and we also evaluate the amount of sunshine they’re getting,” Young said.

Premier Health and Wellness recently opened a medical spa and salon offering customized aesthetic services to enhance the treatment experience and help patients boost their confidence. No other mental health provider in Southern Utah offers such a comprehensive array of services under the same roof, Young said.
