At approximately 5:37 a.m. MST, the Beaver Dam-Littlefield Fire District responded to reports of a structure fire at 3216 Kingman Street, Assistant Fire Chief Andre Ojeda told St. George News. Flames had engulfed a travel trailer, which was determined to be a “complete loss.”

Because of this, firefighters’ “initial attack” was reportedly focused on protecting a nearby mobile home approximately 15-20 feet from the blaze. It sustained “minimal damage” consisting of melted and charred siding.

“We kind of created a curtain and cooled down the other structure because it was just about ready to start,” Ojeda said.

Crews then returned to the original fire. Once the flames were extinguished, they discovered the travel trailer’s occupant deceased inside his home when neighbors began asking for him, Ojeda said.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.

The district dispatched a fire engine, water tender and an ambulance to the scene. The fire district and the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating the fire’s cause.

Ojeda advised those staying or living in travel trailers to keep combustible materials, such as paper, away from heat sources like stoves or personal heaters.

“They catch on fire and become fully engulfed within minutes,” he said.

The name of the man is not being released pending notification of family, Ojeda added.

This report is based on statements from police, emergency personnel or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
