Robbers leave both St. George Walgreens stores empty-handed, police search for suspects

ST. GEORGE — Two men attempted to rob both of St. George’s Walgreens stores late Wednesday evening but left with nothing. While police are searching for the suspects, they remain at large, officers said.

Officers are still trying to put together the chain of events, but ultimately, cooperation between the stores on Bluff Street and Sunset Boulevard helped leave the robbers with nothing to show for their efforts, St. George Police Officer Tiffany Mitchell told St. George News.

“Nothing. No money or items were taken from either location,” Mitchell emphasized, noting the two men said they had a gun at the Bluff location but never showed one.

“They attempted at Bluff Street, and the Bluff Street staff called the Sunset store,” she said. “They saw the suspects inside the store, but when (the men) saw the employees on the phone, they ran out.”

After both suspects left the store at the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Dixie Drive., law enforcement followed by land and air, with at least four police cruisers arriving.

The Utah Department of Public Safety’s Aero Bureau helicopter joined the search circling around the vicinity. But as of Thursday afternoon, police say the two suspects haven’t been arrested.

Both men were described as African American. One was reportedly wearing a black sweatshirt and black pants at the time of the attempted robbery. The other wore a black sweatshirt and gray sweatpants with a black beanie.

Witnesses can call the St. George Police Department at 435-627-4300.
