As network technology grows more complex by the day, many InfoWest customers choose to add managed router services to their subscriptions for hassle-free network setup and maintenance. Managed routers offer advanced features like gigabit capability for fiber subscribers, dual-band connectivity and Voice over Internet Protocol ports.

“Managed router services make using the internet easy,” said Zack Friedman, support operations supervisor for InfoWest. “We’ve been offering managed internet services since they became available.”

What managed router solutions are available to InfoWest customers?

InfoWest uses GigaSpire commercial-grade routers from Calix to provide customers with a secure, reliable and cost-effective connection. Designed with the most advanced wireless technologies on the market, Calix routers enables users to download music, stream HD videos, play games and browse on their tablet, laptop or smartphone at gigabit-fast speeds.

InfoWest monitors the router remotely, automatically providing security updates as they become available. Friendly, local tech support is available 24/7 and just a phone call away.

“Let our experts manage your software and firmware updates, and enjoy a worry-free internet experience,” Friedman said. “If you need your Wi-Fi password changed, we can just hop online and do that in about five minutes.”

Is a managed router more cost-effective?

Some internet users think they’ll save money by purchasing their own router, but that isn’t necessarily the truth. Even the best technology eventually becomes obsolete, and most routers will need to be upgraded within a couple of years. InfoWest provides managed router customers with the newest Calix models to ensure they’re always on the cutting edge.

“Depending on your router needs, you could be saving money,” Friedman said.

If the router encounters technical issues and requires replacement before the next model becomes available, they’ll replace it at no cost. Managed router services from InfoWest add $10 to any monthly plan, and there’s no contract. Wi-Fi extenders, which help boost the signal throughout a larger home or office, are also available for an extra $5 per month.

What are the other benefits of a managed router?

Customers will benefit from advanced features that allow them to have more control and customization over their network. A managed router also provides access to InfoWest’s Connect Plus app, which simplifies network management to create an enhanced security experience. Customers can view connected devices, set up a guest Wi-Fi network, provide basic policy management and associate devices in the network with unique users.

Parents can use also Connect Plus to keep kids safer while surfing. Along with limits for screen time, the app enables users to block access to inappropriate websites, view browsing activity reports and receive notifications when a child’s internet usage doesn’t meet their rules.

“The app allows the customer to do a lot of the configuration and manage part of the router themselves,” Friedman said.

Why did InfoWest partner with Calix for managed router services?

Calix products provide residential and business customers with a reliable, high-performance wireless network. InfoWest offers speeds of up to 1 Gbps in most service areas, but many of the standard routers available in big-box stores aren’t equipped to handle such a fast connection.

Calix routers can support connection speeds exceeding 2.5 Gbps, helping users get the best internet experience possible. InfoWest has been using Calix routers for over five years, and Friedman said they’re available exclusively through select internet service providers.

“With the managed Calix router, customers will be able to enjoy a fast and secure connection without having to worry about technical issues,” he added. “Instead, you can let ‘The Internet People’ handle that.”
