CEDAR CITY — A school bus transporting kindergartners home from Enoch Elementary School was involved in a minor crash near the school around noon on Thursday due to an unspecified medical emergency involving the driver, school officials said.
The driver was later taken via ambulance to an area hospital and is receiving medical care, Iron County School District communications coordinator Shauna Lund told Cedar City News.
“No students were injured,” Lund added. “The students were returned to the school and their parents picked them up.”
An automated message sent out to parents and guardians via Enoch Elementary School’s Remind alert system read as follows:
Our kindergarten bus was in an accident today due to a medical emergency. The students were not injured, and were quickly removed from the bus and brought back to the school. Parents of those students were notified immediately. Some of our students were out at recess at the time and may have witnessed the accident. Our counselors are available and are working with students as needed.
As of 9 p.m. Thursday, there no updates regarding the driver’s condition were available.
Lund said the bus sustained only minor damage in the crash but added that one of the school’s fences and an adjacent residential fence were damaged.
