Gordon W. Jones

Gordon W. Jones was a resident of St George, Utah. His incredible life on Earth ended at his home on March 23, 2023, so his new journey could begin. He was born on Oct. 10, 1939, in Provo, Utah, to William C. and Vera Jones. He married to his wife Judy on May 23, 1964.

Gordon was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, in a family of four brothers and two sisters. He graduated from South High and went on to join the U.S. Army. After his discharge, he began his career in senior management in automated material management systems, retiring from Harnischfeger Engineering as a vice president. Due to his career, he lived in Salt Lake City, Utah; Lubbock, Texas; York, Pennsylvania; Palo Alto, California; and Brookfield, Wisconsin. He retired and moved to St George, Utah.

Gordon was a devout member of the LDS Church and served in various leadership positions.  One of his favorite positions was as Bishop working with the youth. He also loved his calling of teaching gospel doctrine.

He loved being outdoors, jeeping, horseback riding, hiking, traveling, reading, church service and most of all, he loved being with family.

Gordon was preceded in death by his daughter Debra Howland (Stephen) and sons Rick Jones (Julie) and Randy Jones (Sherry). He is survived by his wife Judy Jones; daughters Lisa Armantrout and Tamera Turpin; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 31, at 1 p.m. in the Sunset 1st Ward Chapel, 82 North Dixie Drive, St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary 288 West St. George Blvd., and on Friday, prior to services, from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 South Dixie Drive, St. George, Utah.
