Raymond Gene Kattler

March 6, 1936-March 17, 2023

Raymond Gene Kattler of St. George, Utah, departed this earthly life on Friday, March 17, 2023, at the age of 87, after a brief illness.

After graduating from East High School in Cleveland, Ohio, he married his sweetheart for life, Marie. Their 67-year marriage is a testament to their love for one another and their lifelong friendship that remained to the end.

Ray was fortunate enough to retire at an early age from Republic Steel in Warren, Ohio, and he and wife Marie, got the travel bug. They purchased a fifth-wheel trailer, a new pickup truck and sold their home and many possessions to hit the road and explore the country. After discovering many beautiful places and meeting many, many great friends over 12 years, they decided to settle in St. George, Utah, where he and wife Marie continued exploring their love of the outdoors through the more local parks.

Ray was a devout member of Grace Episcopal Church in St. George, where he served as senior warden, acolyte master and prayer minister. He and Marie also volunteered for several years at the local soup kitchen, cooking and helping others as much as possible.

Raymond is survived by his wife, Marie Ann Kattler (Rutherford) of St. George, Utah, and son Dave Kattler of Mantua, Ohio (and wife Lorie), as well as extended family in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and West Virginia.

Raymond was preceded in life by his father John Kattler, mother Margaret Kattler (Bowman) and son John Allan Kattler.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hughes Mortuary, 1037 East 700 S. St. George, Utah, 435-674-5000.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of St. George Clinic, 1192 W. Sunset Blvd Suite 2, St. George, UT 84770.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
