ST. GEORGE — The 4A Utah state basketball tournament is in the books, and there will possibly never be another like it.

In the boys championship game, Sky View capped its strong year with a title after a fourth-quarter surge secured victory over Dixie.

And in the girls game, Ridgeline fulfilled its destiny and beat Sky View to finish the season undefeated en route to picking up the championship.

Both Region 11 teams won the tournament in Logan, on the campus of Utah State University.

Last year, two Region 10 teams won the tournament in St. George, on the campus of Utah Tech University.

Desert Hills beat that Ridgeline team in double-overtime to capture the girls title while Snow Canyon defeated back-to-back runner-up Dixie on the boys side.

The two tournaments pitted North versus South, Region 11 against Region 10, to determine 4A supremacy.

As previously reported in St. George News, next year the 4A classification will double in size and 13 basketball teams will enter the ranks of 4A.

For both Region 10 and 11, not only has it become a lot harder to get to the championship game, this change also will require beating teams from Salt Lake County. The chances of a north versus south championship matchup will lower dramatically.

The tournament that ended last weekend can be enjoyed even more, knowing that it may have been the last of its kind. St. George News’ colleagues at Cache Valley Daily provided photos for the following gallery that highlights some of the players and moments from the tournament.
