CONTRIBUTED CONTENT — After permit delays, phase one of Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp-Resort Zion Utah has officially been approved, sparking excitement as a water park with eight bodies of water, a 45-foot water tower, two giant hot tubs and a 500-linear-foot lazy river with beach access are being built.

Prior to the recent permit approvals, Zion Utah Jellystone Park owner Scott Nielson said the park only had a permit for mass excavation. Now that their site plan and permits are approved, they’re ready to bring a huge Jellystone RV resort and Yogi Bear water zone to Southern Utah by the beginning of next summer.

“That’s been our biggest delay on this project,” he added. “But now that we have our site approval, there’s nothing holding us back. Game on – let’s rock and roll.”

Currently under construction are the interior undergrounds, which include the water, sewer, power and utilities, along with curb and gutter. The 45-foot water tower is the next scheduled project, with a goal to begin construction on Jan. 1. The entire water park is being shipped from Kentucky next month.

“It’s going to be the first of its kind in Southern Utah,” Nielson said about the water tower. “People have tried it, they’ve attempted it, but nobody has been successful. This is brand new, turn-key and built by a company that does professional water parks globally.”

Zion Utah Jellystone Park will be built in three phases, with the first phase opening in the summer of 2023. Phase one will consist of a full water zone along with 74 camping sites and 10 modern luxury cabins that will sit lakefront. The cabins are built and sitting in the Zip Kit Homes yard in Cedar City ready for delivery, Nielson said.

The lake offers water bikes and trikes along with paddle boarding. Additional amenities will include pavilions, comfort stations, a Ranger Station, a snack shack and a general store.

The water zone will contain eight bodies of water, two giant hot tubs, two different activity pools and a 500-linear-foot lazy river with beach access. Water slides include two speed slides, a tube slide and a “Super Bowl” slide.

“My kids call it the ‘royal flush,’ like a toilet,” Nielson said. “You go down through the slide, then you go around this ‘super bowl’ through a drain, basically, and slide out. So that’s really fun. Kids and adults love it!”

The park will also consist of a giant in-ground jump pillow along with interactive play features, such as a giant bucket that will fill with water and be dumped on numerous slides. Obstacle courses will be available for kids along with a kids’ pool and a separate adult pool. Pool activities include basketball, volleyball and more. Nielson said his own children helped engineer multimillion-dollar decisions based on the desires of kids.

“We anticipate having phase one done for summer, before the end of May,” he added. “People can come into the water park and stay at a cabin or one of our red carpet campsites. By August and September, we’ll have phase two.”

With less infrastructure, phases two and three are planned to be completed quickly and will mainly consist of additional campsites. Nielson said the plan is to have the entire park completed between the end of 2023 and the first quarter of 2024. The following year, they plan to add a Wibit water obstacle course.

“We’ll always be phasing in new attractions,” he added.

Looking for a spot for your next family reunion or vacation? Zion Utah Jellystone Park is the place. The park is themed after the beloved Hanna-Barbera cartoons, bringing Yogi Bear’s world to life.

Zion Utah Jellystone Park also offers activities that go beyond the average water park, from mini golf with glow-in-the-dark 3D and 4D animatronics to modern warfare laser tag. There’s also gemstone mining and Gaga, a fast-paced, dodgeball-style game. Inside the resort, visitors will find the kid-friendly Ranger Station featuring a snack bar with candy and ice cream. Then, step into a world of activities inside the Yogi theatre or shop the merchandise center for stuffed toys, gemstone mining bags, clothing and a variety of souvenir keepsakes to commemorate your adventures.

The park is minutes away from Sand Hollow State Park and Sand Mountain, which provides access to the limitless outdoor attractions of the region. There are opportunities for everyone, including boating, mountain biking, off-roading, golfing and hiking.

Zion Utah Jellystone Park is taking reservations now for the upcoming summer season. But don’t wait. With luxury cabins, oversized RV sites and never-ending fun, they’re sure to sell out fast. Click here to book your stay.

“It’ll be worth the wait,” Nielson said. “Based on peer reviews, we anticipate that the resort will be sold out two years in advance.”
