CEDAR CITY — A former employee of a property management company in Cedar City is facing felony charges for allegedly depositing customers’ rent payments into her own personal account and for allegedly misusing the company’s debit card.

Formal charges against Lindsi Michelle Myers, 29, were filed in 5th District Court on Nov. 10. The alleged criminal activity involving Myers occurred earlier this year, with a date of June 2, 2022, listed on the probable cause statement filed in support of her arrest.

Myers has been charged with theft exceeding $5,000, a second-degree felony, and unlawful use of a financial transaction card, a third-degree felony.

According to the affidavit, Myers is accused of accepting rent payments from multiple tenants and depositing them into her personal Venmo account. She also allegedly transferred money between the company’s accounts in an attempt to cover the missing funds.

Affected customers who were asked to make overdue rent payments complained they had already paid them and were able to provide documentation, prompting an investigation.

Additionally, police allege that Myers used a company debit card to make at least $1,500 worth of unauthorized purchases, including ordering items through her own Amazon account. The card was intended to be used for minor office supplies, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit also states that although Myers willingly went into the Cedar City Police station to be interviewed by an investigator, she asked for a lawyer shortly after being advised of her Miranda rights.

“As l was talking to her she stated that she wanted an attorney,” the arresting officer wrote. “At that time, I stopped asking her any further questions and l informed her that she was under arrest.”

Shortly after being booked on the charges on Nov. 8, Myers was released on a $10,000 unsecured bond. Her initial court appearance has been scheduled for the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 29, before 5th District Judge Ann Marie McIff Allen.

This report is based on statements from court documents and law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings. Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
