St. George Police officers responded to reports of a collision on 3050 East at Deseret Drive South shortly before 4 p.m.

A Honda motorcycle was traveling northbound when a Honda passenger car made a left-hand turn and collided with the motorcycle, police Sgt. Tyrell Bangerter said.

The female motorcyclist was transported to the hospital with a “significant leg injury,” he said. The driver of the car reportedly did not sustain any injuries.

Police interviewed several witnesses at the scene and called in the Accident Reconstruction Team to investigate the scene by taking measurements and using a drone. Because the collision is still under investigation, no citations were issued at the time, Bangerter said, adding that all the information would be given to prosecuting attorneys to determine what charges if any, would be filed.

The Accident Reconstruction Team included members from various agencies, including the Utah Tech University Police Department, Washington City Police Department and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Motorcycles involved in similar collisions are “going to lose when they go up against the vehicle,” Bangerter said, adding that he wasn’t speaking on this specific crash.

“Anytime a car is pulling out onto a roadway – look, “Bangerter said. “Look again and just double-check. Make sure that there’s no motorcycles coming, no cyclists, no pedestrians – anything like that because, in a situation like this, they’re gonna lose every time.”

The road was closed from time the time of the crash until shortly after 7 p.m.

This report is based on statements from police, emergency personnel, other responders, or witnesses on the scene and may not contain the full scope of findings.
