Utah Tech Sports: Runners blaze their way into cross country record books

ST. GEORGE — Utah Tech’s men’s and women’s cross country teams ran their second-best top-five average time in university history at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational Saturday morning.

And among the runners to make their mark are two Southern Utah prep standouts.

The men averaged 25 minutes, 8 seconds, for 8 kilometers, en route to a 20th-place finish, while the women averaged 21:50 on the 6K course to place 17th.

Brian Shulz paced the Trailblazers with the No. 3 time in program history, running 24:47.2. Kallen Webster ran the fourth-best time in program history, racing in 24:56.6, and Andrew Allen followed him up with the No. 5 best all-time in 25:06.5.

Pine View High School alum Julien Canales and Nick Roach ran the program’s ninth and 10th fastest times at 25:25.0 and 25.27.3, respectively.

Rylee Jacobsen led the way for the Utah Tech women, racing a 21:29.9 for the sixth-best time in program history. Lexi Larsen followed with the No. 7 overall best, running 21:47.7. Dixie High School alum Kirstin Williams and Shakayala Morgan were next, earning the eighth and ninth best for Trailblazer harriers, running 21:43.0 and 21:43.4, respectively.

Emma Humes finished in  22:35.8, followed by Nicolette Coffman in 23:04.5 and Maria Skinner in 23:47.4

Utah Tech will head to Nacogdoches, Texas, Oct. 29 for the 2022 Western Athletic Conference Championships.
