ST. GEORGE — There will be plenty of ways for football fans to take in the first round of the 4A state playoffs Friday night.

The only local game in St. George will feature Snow Canyon at home against Green Canyon.

The Warriors finished as co-champions of Region 10 along with Crimson Cliffs, both teams going 5-1. Overall Snow Canyon is 6-3.

Green Canyon finished fifth in Region 11 at 1-4 and is 1-8 overall. Nolan Perry’s Power Guide in the Deseret News rates Snow Canyon at 96.1 and Green Canyon at 71.0, predicting that the favored Warriors will win.

Live radio coverage will be broadcast on The Fan Sports Network 99.5 FM in St. George. The game can also be streamed at The Fan Sports Network website.

Longtime Region 10 football observer Devin Dixon will call the game along with Mark Musgrave.

“It’s always exciting for high school football. The regular season flies by,” Dixon told St. George News. “I miss the old days where we had 23 teams in the 4A classification. I’m not a big fan of everybody getting into the playoffs.”

Region 11 claimed the last three consecutive 4A state championships (Ridgeline last year, Sky View the previous two), but with the top three seeds in this year’s tournament going to Crimson Cliffs, Desert Hills and Dixie, local fans hope this will be the year Region 10 prevails.

“Between Desert Hills and Crimson and Dixie, and Snow Canyon, one of those four teams has got a really good shot to win the state title,” Dixon said. “In fact, I’d be surprised if the winner was not one of those four teams.”

Friday’s second local game will be in Cedar City at 4 p.m. when the No. 8 seeded Reds will host No. 9 Logan.

Cedar finished fifth in Region 10 with a 2-4 record, 3-6 overall. The visiting Grizzlies were 2-3 and fourth-place in Region 11 and finished 5-5 overall.

Kaden Foremaster will broadcast the game live on The Fan Sports Network 93.1 FM and 1400 AM in Cedar City at 4 p.m. The game will also be streamed at The Fan Sports Network website.
