ST. GEORGE — A 7-year-old child was killed in a collision on state Route 14 in Kane County near Duck Creek Village on Friday evening, Utah Highway Patrol reported.

The incident, which happened at approximately 6:10 p.m., involved three different vehicles: a 2008 GMC pickup truck, a 2012 Ford F350 pickup truck pulling a trailer, and a Kia Soul compact passenger car.

According to a UHP press release, the GMC truck was heading westbound on SR-14 near mile marker 27 when it drifted over the center line and clipped the eastbound Ford truck’s trailer.

“The GMC pickup lost control as it continued westbound and crossed completely into the eastbound lane,” the news release stated, adding that the GMC then struck the eastbound Kia head-on.

The Kia was being driven by a mother with her two children in the back seat as passengers, UHP reported. All of them were wearing their seat belts, but one of the children, a 7-year-old boy, reportedly impacted the back of the front passenger seat and sustained fatal injuries.

The other two occupants of the Kia, the woman who was driving and the other child, were reportedly transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Meanwhile, the GMC pickup driver was transported via Intermountain Life Flight helicopter in critical condition.

Both eastbound and westbound lanes of SR-14 were closed for approximately three hours while the incident was investigated and the scene was cleared.

This report is based on statements from court documents and law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings.
