Region 10 boys golf: Led by Markham’s 64, Crimson Cliffs wins for 4th straight week

ST. GEORGE — The Crimson Cliffs Mustangs won the Region 10 boys golf match for the fourth straight week, edging runner-up Desert Hills by just five strokes at Sunbrook Golf Club on Wednesday.

With Lincoln Markham leading the way with an 8-under-par score of 64, the Mustangs posted a team score of 285. Desert Hills, which was paced by Brock Porter’s 68, finished second with 290 strokes. Cedar High School Reds were another 15 strokes back at 305.

Crimson Cliffs was missing star player Boston Bracken, who was in Florida for a tournament.

“It was tough today, given that Boston was out of town and we knew the whole team all needed to play well,” Markham said. “The team all stepped up.”

Markham shot 8-under for the second straight week, once again making par or better on all 18 holes.

“Having no bogeys really helped out my round today, but my chipping was really what saved me,” Markham said, adding that he “got up and down” to save par on six different holes, meaning he made it in the hole with a single putt after reaching the green.

“We’re looking forward to next week at our home course with Boston back,” Markham added, referring to next Wednesday’s match at Sand Hollow Resort in Hurricane.
