Rollover on state Route 7 likely caused by impairment or medical emergency; driver goes to hospital

ST. GEORGE — A driver likely overcorrected, resulting in a vehicle rollover on state Route 7 Tuesday afternoon.

St. George Police officer Burkely Christian told St. George News that a black Lincoln Aviator SUV overcorrected while in the outside lane and slid off-road into the center median.

Christian added that the vehicle then rolled, went airborne and returned to rest back on the highway, partially blocking the westbound lane about a half-mile from Exit 1.

Gold Cross Ambulance, St. George Police and Utah Highway Patrol officers arrived on the scene shortly before 1:30 p.m.

Christian said officers believed that the driver of the Aviator either suffered from a medical emergency or may have been impaired at the time of the incident.

He said the driver suffered what appeared to be minor injuries and was transported to St. George Regional Hospital.

The driver was to be treated there, he added, and then officers will further investigate the exact cause of the rollover.

This report is based on statements by police personnel and may not include the full scope of the investigation.
