Update, June 5, 8:10 p.m. Deputy Chief Jeff Bassett of the Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue said in a press release that the fire is 50% contained. Crews will be monitoring it throughout the night. Firefighters have been able to hold the blaze to 20 acres. No evacuations or injuries have been reported. Bassett says the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

A fire broke out near the popular area at approximately 12:20 p.m. said  Hurricane Valley Fire District Captain Steve Harris.

Two single-engine air tankers – or S.E.A.T.’s – and two heavy tankers have been dispatched to surround the flames with fire retardant, Harris said, adding that crews are currently hiking out to dig a handline around the fire’s perimeter. There are 25 personnel assigned to the fire.

No injuries have been reported, Harris said, although the fire continues to burn.

According to the Color Country Interagency Fire Center, the fire is not currently threatening any structures. Investigators are on-scene working to determine the cause, Harris said.

The Bureau of Land Management, the United States Forest Service Fire Engine out of Zion National Park and the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands also responded to the fire.

This report is based on statements from police, emergency personnel or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
