Looking to the future, Visionary Homes makes life more convenient with smart home technology

CONTRIBUTED CONTENT — Designed with today’s families in mind, Visionary Homes are truly built for living. The company strives to make homeownership as comfortable and convenient as possible by incorporating technology at every turn, including smart home automation.

“I’m very committed to smart home technology,” CEO Jeff Jackson said. “Anything you can think about automating in a home, we’ve done it.”

Buyers often assume that smart home technology is only for custom and expensive homes, but Jackson said that isn’t the case. Visionary Homes offers a “basic” home automation package from Control4 that serves as an introduction to the capabilities of a smart home. Homeowners can build on it by adding new features over time as desired.

Visionary Homes is one of the only builders in the nation licensed as a Control4 dealer. Jackson, who lives in a fully automated Control4 smart home, said the convenience of technology makes everyday life easier. Homeowners can turn all the lights off with one switch when they’re ready for bed or make sure the garage door is closed after they’ve left for work with the smartphone app.

The Control4 module also communicates with other smart devices in the home, like the thermostat and security system. Homeowners can program their interior and exterior lights to turn on or off at random times, making it look like someone’s home even if they’ll be away for days.

“The possibilities are endless as far as what you can do with smart homes,” Jackson said.

Visionary Homes operates a design studio for the Southern Utah market that showcases smart home technology. Buyers can familiarize themselves with the Control4 module and explore lights, locks and other features.

As the company name suggests, Visionary Homes is always looking ahead. Buyers want a home that will be ready for future technological advancements, Jackson said, so they wire every new build with high-speed Cat6 internet cable and conduits running from the road to the house.

“As we become more and more of a technology-oriented society, people expect their home to keep up with their cars and their phones and their computers.”

Visionary Homes are built to last a lifetime. Their signature “tight fit method” maximizes comfort and energy efficiency by reducing air leaks to an absolute minimum, and they install Tyvek house wrap to block moisture while allowing the home to breathe. Materials are carefully selected to withstand the harsh desert climate.

“There’s science involved with building homes,” Jackson said. “A lot of technology is put into the homes that buyers can’t see.”

Visionary Homes neighborhoods are focused on lifestyle. From condos to single-family homes to multimillion-dollar estates, they do it all. In 2021, Best of Southern Utah voters awarded the company a gold ribbon in the home builder category and silver among real estate agencies.

Jackson started Visionary Homes with Justin Cooper in 2004. Together, they’ve grown it into the state’s third largest home builder. The company is owned and operated entirely by people who live and work in Utah.

“We want buyers to come in and feel like they’re working with a small hometown local builder,” Jackson said. “We’ve stayed true to our roots.”

Visionary Homes is currently building and selling within four unique developments in the St. George area, each designed for a different type of homebuyer. Enjoy resort-style living at Desert Color, where you can choose from condos, townhomes or single-family homes. Get closer to nature in Divario, nestled among miles of trails near Green Valley. Family-friendly amenities abound in Warner Gateway just off the Southern Parkway, while the Azalea Townhomes in Ivins provide gorgeous red rock views at more accessible price points.

With a commitment to premium craftsmanship and thoughtful design, Visionary Homes builds houses that buyers are proud to call home.
