ST. GEORGE — Remarkably only one car was damaged and one person was taken to the hospital after a passenger car veered off Bluff Street and drove into a ditch Wednesday night.
St. George police officer Saxton Brown told St. George News that a white passenger car was northbound on Bluff when it inexplicably veered across southbound lanes and crashed off the road near the intersection at 100 South.
No other vehicles were hit or damaged, Brown said. He added that the single male driver of the passenger car was taken to the hospital, but he had no other details about possible injuries to the driver.
The page for the accident went out around 8:20 p.m. Over an hour later, crews were still busy trying to maneuver the badly mangled automobile up onto the curb so it could be hoisted onto a tow truck.
Brown said he had no idea what may have caused the driver to swerve.
“Sometimes accidents happen,” he said.
Southbound traffic on Bluff Street was limited to one lane while the car was towed away and the accident scene was cleaned up. Normal traffic flow resumed around 9:45 p.m.
This report is based on police statements at the scene and may not reflect the full scope of the findings of the investigation, which is ongoing.
