Charlyn Rea Swapp-Porter

Sept. 1, 1954-March 29, 2022

On March 29, 2022, our one-of-a-kind Charlyn Rea Swapp-Porter, better known as “Charlie,” gained her wings and left our world after a long, courageous battle with ALS. She is very much loved and will be greatly missed by many.

Charlie was born on Sept. 1, 1954, the fourth child, to Mont C. and Shirley A. Swapp in Salt Lake City. She was raised mostly in Bountiful, lived in Nevada and settled down in Cedar City where she lived until her passing.

Her zest for life was always there. A free spirit, her Grandmother Dodds used to say. She traveled to Idaho, Wyoming, California, Montana, Nevada and many other places too long to list. Nothing slowed Charlie down. She lived life to the fullest and loved every minute of it.

On May 11, 1985, she married Warren Dale Loger in Las Vegas, Nevada. Later they divorced. During this marriage they had two amazing daughters: Stevie Ann Loger and Shelby Rea Loger. These girls became Charlie’s life. Everything she did, she did for them. The bond the three of them have will never be broken. They are mother and daughters, but most of all they are best friends.

As Charlie continued down the road of life, she met her soul mate, Leonard “Danny” Porter. After several years of dating and weekend getaways, the decision was made. On March 4, 2005, they said “I do.” Charlie was the happiest she had been in a very long time. Then, without warning, Danny unexpectedly passed away on April 22, 2005, only a month after they were married. Charlie was never the same but forged on without regret because she always kept a smile on her face and love in her heart as she knew they would once again be together.

“As we know…..life is like a box of chocolate….you never know what you’re going to get.”

Charlie’s love for life was never underestimated by anyone who knew her. In 2009 and in 2014 Charlie was blessed with little girls that called her Grandma. Avery Hoovan and Carlynn Loger completed her clan and made life feel completely full.

After Charlie was diagnosed with ALS in 2020 she started making arrangements so the transition would be easier for her daughters, who were her caretakers with the help and guidance of Intermountain Hospice Team. Charlie decided to donate her body to science and research, so her remains are at Life Science Anatomical in Las Vegas, Nevada. Cremation will take place at Serenity Funeral Home in Cedar City, Utah.

The family would like to show gratitude to these amazing providers: Hospice nurses Debbie, Sirpa and Dion; CNA Nicole; social worker Craig; doctors Sanderson and Garrett.

A special thank you to: Truman Cuch (Stevie’s boyfriend), Erika Hewitt (lifelong family friend), the entire Hospice team, Milts (Daniel Aiken-owner), Ninja (Raymond Lou-owner) plus crew, David and Terry Dodds (all the help, love and support), Joely Nelson (co-worker and family friend) and Charlyn’s extended family.

Charlyn was preceded in death by her father Mont C. Swapp, mother Shirley A Swapp, first husband Warren Loger and soulmate Danny Porter.

Charlie is survived by her siblings Patricia (Hugh) Sandall, Marilyn (Eldon) Hansen, Jane (Frank) Bradbury, Shirley and Marty Tyler, Monte (Melissa) Swapp, Tom (Susan) Swapp, her daughters Stevie Loger and Shelby Loger, her granddaughters Avery Hoovan and Carlynn Loger, several nieces and nephews, many friends and her three loyal furry companions Willow, Bear and Nash.

Celebration of life for Charlyn Rea Porter will be held at The Barn at Cedar Meadows on April 22 from 3-5 p.m., 1419 West 3000 North, Cedar City.

Charlie’s spirit was always positive and her laugh was contagious. She was known for her funny puns and her hilarious sense of humor.

“I wish I could leave you my credit score, you know what I mean?”

While being asleep, she wakens with eyes wide open…..”Boo!”

“Did you get your hair washed today……(with a short breath) Yep!”

Charlie “Where is that girl from?” (American Idol) Shelby “The United Kingdom” Charlie “Ah…..Africa.”

We love you Momma…..
