ST. GEORGE — The vast, open sands of southwestern Utah are a paradise for off-roading enthusiasts as well as tourists who sometimes get in over their heads. So if you get stuck, make sure you know who to call.
In this episode of “No Filter,” presented by Cloud 9, host Grady Sinclair and his buddy Abraham Thiombiano met the folks behind Southern Utah’s biggest YouTube sensation. Matt’s Off-Road Recovery in Hurricane has earned over 1 million subscribers by just filming and sharing what they do every day.

Owner Matt Wetzel and his team builds and maintains all of their off-road recovery equipment on-site. Fans of their YouTube channel will recognize their signature Matt’s Recovery Rope, the yellow and black kinetic rope that works for jobs of all shapes and sizes.
In order to get Wetzel and his team on the scene, Sinclair buried the back tires of the St. George News video van in the red dunes near Sand Hollow.
While his camera guy captured everything, Wetzel assessed the depth of the sand, the van’s weight and what tools he might need to pull it out. Then he searched for a connecting point on the van that would be strong enough to get the job done and hooked on his namesake rope.

This spring, Matt’s Off-Road Recovery is helping the Rotary Club of Hurricane Valley gather funds to build an all-abilities park. The goal is to raise $120,000. Visit their website to make a donation and get a patch commemorating the rotary club’s upcoming Easter car show on April 16.
