2 crashes occur in 2 hours on same St. George street corner

ST. GEORGE — St. George Police and firefighters spent a lot of their time at the corner of Dixie Drive and 600 West early Friday afternoon.

Within a span of two hours, two crashes occurred, each involving two vehicles, at the same corner that has the entrance to the Thunder Junction All Abilities Park to the east and the entry to the Tonaquint neighborhoods on the other.

Neither crash resulted in injuries, police said.

The particulars of the two crashes are still under investigation, though both involved the left turn lane of northbound Dixie Drive.

The first crash took place right after noon and involved two passenger vehicles. One vehicle, a silver sedan, had its front hood crushed in while the other vehicle sustained damage toward the rear passenger side.

After police and firefighters cleared that scene, a second crash happened around 1:40 p.m.

This incident involved a silver Honda CRV with a female driver as its only passenger crashing into a white Nissan Murano with a woman driving two children. The Honda had front damage, while it appeared the metal skin of the Nissan driver’s side door was ripped off.

That metal sat in the wooden chips that acted as landscaping at the southwest corner of Dixie and 600 West, near metal debris left from the earlier crash.

“It’s just two vehicles that collided,” St. George Police Officer Cameron Clark said. “Officers are investigating to see if there’s a traffic violation. At this point, everybody is OK.”

The two crashes were close enough in time that St. George Fire Department firefighters said that just after they left the scene after rendering aid and helping to clean up the first crash, they had to turn around and immediately return to the same corner.
