CEDAR CITY — One driver was injured in a three-vehicle collision in downtown Cedar City on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident, which occurred at approximately 2 p.m. at the intersection of 100 West and 200 North, involved a white Dodge Caravan minivan, a black Cadillac sedan and a silver Toyota Highlander SUV.

Cedar City Police Officer Stenson Bergstrom told Cedar City News at the scene that the driver of the Dodge minivan was heading north on 100 West and as its driver tried to go across 200 North, she struck the westbound Cadillac on the front of its driver’s side.

“The black car attempted to avoid the collision but still got struck by the van,” Bergstrom said, adding that the momentum of the impact then caused the Cadillac to strike the front of the Toyota, which had been stopped at the stop sign facing south on 100 West.

The driver of the minivan was taken to the hospital via ambulance for evaluation, but her injuries were not believed to be serious, Bergstrom said. Neither of the other two drivers was injured, he added, nor was the one passenger in the Cadillac.

Both the Dodge and the Cadillac sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene. The Toyota, although still operable, was also towed, although its front-end damage was considered to be relatively minor.

Bergstrom said at the scene that no citations had yet been issued but noted that the incident is still under investigation.

This report is based on information provided by law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings.
