Traffic advisory: Southbound I-15 backed up due to roadwork

ST. GEORGE — Traffic on southbound Interstate 15 is experiencing “significant back up” just south of the Arizona-Utah Port of Entry that also extends several miles into Arizona, according the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The backup was reported around 2:45 p.m. and is the result of the Arizona Department of Transportation’s paving improvements to the I-15 corridor through the Virgin River Gorge.

“The back up will probably continue until about 5 PM Mountain standard time,” ADPS Sgt. John Bottoms said in a text to media.

Alternate route

Those seeking to avoid the traffic backup in the Virgin River Gorge may take Highway 91 as an alternate route, which may save travel time and reduce congestion.

The highway bypasses the Gorge entirely, intersecting with I-15 at Exit 8 in Littlefield, Arizona, to the south and connecting to St. George at the north via Santa Clara and Sunset Boulevard. See map included in this article.
