ST. GEORGE — Crimson Cliffs and Snow Canyon remained tied atop the Region 10 baseball standings as the state playoffs rapidly approach.

Crimson Cliffs continued to prove that the paths to the region championship as well as to the 4A state title go through Washington Fields.

The defending state champion Mustangs took two from Dixie last week, handing the Flyers their first Region 10 losses and maintaining the tie for first place with Snow Canyon. Both teams have region records of 9-1.

Following are recaps from the Region 10 baseball diamonds, beginning with games from April 21.

Crimson Cliffs 11, Dixie 1

Brexten Starley doubled, singled and drove in three runs for the winners while Jayger Baldwin contributed two RBI, doubled and scored a run for Crimson Cliffs.

Mustangs senior lefthander Beau Sampson won on the hill, hurling five innings and allowing two hits. Working with curveballs and off-speed stuff, Sampson yielded the one run, walked one and struck out six Flyers batters.

The run charged to Sampson was unearned as the Mustangs only blemish was an uncharacteristic three errors by the defense, including one by Sampson.
