The incident, which occurred at approximately 3 p.m. at the intersection of 800 South and Main Street, involved a white Subaru Legacy sedan and a red-orange Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Cedar City Police Officer Nate Martinez said that just as he arrived on scene shortly after receiving a report from a dispatcher about a personal injury crash, he saw a motorcyclist lying face down on the pavement with his wrecked bike alongside the curb a short distance away. Meanwhile, the Subaru was blocking traffic in the middle of the intersection.

Martinez said that according to witnesses, the woman driving the Subaru made a left turn in front of the motorcycle, which had been heading south on Main Street.

“It appears that she didn’t yield the right of way to the oncoming motorcycle,” Martinez said.

Martinez said the biker was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, sustained what appeared to be potentially serious injuries and was transported via ambulance to Cedar City Hospital.

“As far as I could tell, he was very confused and bleeding from the face,” Martinez said, adding that medical personnel were also concerned about possible neck and back injuries neck injuries.

Meanwhile, the woman driving the Subaru was checked out by an EMT at the scene and taken to the hospital for evaluation. A younger child who had been riding in the car did not sustain any injuries, Martinez added.

“We’re just thankful that everyone’s alive,” he said. “If he wasn’t wearing his helmet, it could have been a different story.”

In addition to multiple Cedar City Police officers, personnel from Gold Cross Ambulance and Cedar City Fire Department also responded to the incident, along with one Utah Highway Patrol trooper.

Traffic was impacted for approximately 30 minutes as responders helped the injured drivers and worked to clear the wreckage from the scene. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were towed away.

This report is based on preliminary statements from aw enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings.
