St. George Police Sgt. Tyler Beddoes told St. George News that the key contributors to the incident were impatience and speed.

At about 6:45 p.m., a man driving a gray Hyundai Elantra turned left off East 1490 South onto George Washington Boulevard when a white Honda Accord crashed into it, Beddoes said.

Leading up to the crash, the Honda driver, a man in his 20s, was traveling east on George Washington Boulevard. The Honda then hit the Hyundai directly in the driver’s side of the vehicle, causing the Hyundai to spin 180 degrees, coming to rest over the curb on the north side of George Washington Boulevard.

There was extensive damage to the driver’s side of the Hyundai and the front of the Honda.

First responders arrived to find both drivers walking around, police said. The driver of the Honda, who started feeling chest pains, was transported to St. George Regional Hospital by Gold Cross Ambulance.

The driver of the Hyundai was uninjured and cited for failure to yield, Beddoes said, adding that both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Beddoes said the holiday season has been particularly busy with traffic incidents as a result of failing to yield, driving too fast and running red lights.

“Slow down and arrive at your destination safely and alive,” he said. “Nothing is worth your life.”

Both vehicles were towed and traffic was minorly affected during the cleanup. The scene was cleared at about 7:45 p.m.

East 1490 South was closed to traffic while George Washington Boulevard remained open with one lane for travel.
