ST. GEORGE —Utah Tech students are in mourning after a fellow student fell five stories from the Campus View Suites II Sunday morning and was pronounced dead on the scene.
“We are setting up counseling services this morning at the Campus View Suites, which will also be available tomorrow to students and anyone that can use it,” Dr. Jordon Sharp, Vice President of Marketing and Communications at Utah Tech said.
Sharp said that freshman Peyton Hall tragically fell from the fifth-story balcony surrounded by friends and roommates who witnessed the incident. The fall appears to be accidental but is currently under investigation.
“The roommates are very, as you can imagine, having a very very difficult time. They were close,” Sharp said.
After witnessing the fall, students immediately called 911. The Utah Tech University Police Department was the first to arrive on the scene, followed by Gold Cross Ambulance. Emergency responders conducted life-saving measures but Hall was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Our condolences go out to the family,” Sharp said. “It’s tragic. This was a good student in good standing and active on campus, involved, and our hearts are going out to everyone involved.”
The St. George Police Department, St. George Fire Department and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene. This report is based on statements from court records, police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
