Madalyn Rasmussen Swan

Sept. 11, 1965 — Sept. 8, 2022

Madalyn Rasmussen Swan, beloved wife and mother, passed away September 8, 2022.

Madalyn was born in Salt Lake City on September 11, 1965, to Melva and Hans Rasmussen. She attended James E. Moss Elementary and Granite Junior High. In 1979, the family moved to St. George, Utah, and Madalyn attended and graduated from Dixie High. She attended then Dixie College (now Utah Tech) and graduated with an Associate Degree. She transferred to BYU and while there she chose to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-
day Saints. She loved her 18 months of service in the Wisconsin-Milwaukee mission and often shared stories of her experiences there.

Madalyn met Mark Swan on a blind date in 1989. They fell in love and married on Sept. 15, 1990. Their first home was in Dublin, Ireland. Madalyn loved exploring the Emerald Island and made many friends there. Their first son, Stephen Mark Swan, was born in Dublin but only lived for three days. A heart-wrenching experience for the new parents.

After two years in Ireland, Madalyn and Mark moved to St. George, and then Santa Clara, Utah. Madalyn gave birth to Sara and Jason which brought great joy to Madalyn and her husband.

Madalyn loved to visit new places and before her health limited her abilities to travel, she toured in Italy, Israel, Germany, Great Britain and of course, most of Ireland.

She was a talented artist and loved crafts of all kinds. She had a love of astronomy and liked watching lightning during a thunderstorm. She hated injustice and bullies and spiders.

Despite significant health challenges for a large portion of her time on Earth, she was full of life and could light up a room. She lived her life with much laughter and happiness. She is loved and she is missed.

Madalyn is survived by her husband, two children, her mother, and her two siblings.

A graveside service will be held for family and friends at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 16, at the Santa Clara Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to share tributes online. Arrangements and memorial tree planting by Serenity Funeral Home of Southern Utah, 435-986-9100.
