Kyle David Cope, 34, of Mesquite, Nev., was charged with felony grand larceny of a motor vehicle following his arrest following an alleged auto theft on Aug. 11.

Mesquite police responded at approximately 11 p.m. to a report of a pickup truck that had been stolen from a residence just minutes earlier, according to a press release from the Mohave Police Department. The caller reportedly knew the suspect and was able to provide an accurate description of him and the direction he fled.

Officers also learned the suspect stole the keys from the victim’s house and departed in the truck without permission before the victim could stop him, the news release said.

Cope’s arrest came after officers began to search for the stolen truck and also alerted area law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout, the news release said.

The truck was equipped with a GPS  tracking device, which showed the Cope allegedly fled into Arizona at a high rate of speed. Using the GPS location, Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies were able to find the pickup and took the suspect into custody without incident.

“The immediate action of our officers and our strong relationships with all neighboring law enforcement agencies, and of course the GPS device, aided in the quick resolution and safe return of the stolen truck,” Chief MaQuade Chesley said in a news release. “Thank  you to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office deputies for helping us get this criminal off the streets.”

Due to the felony charges, Cope will be booked into Clark County Detention Center in  Las Vegas, Nevada.
