ST. GEORGE — Led by Annabelle Millard’s stellar score of 70, the Dixie High School girls golf team snapped Pine View’s season-long consecutive win streak with a victory at Green Spring Golf Course on Wednesday.
Millard, who had been nursing a sore wrist the week before, made six birdies during the 18-hole round to finish at one under par.
“My wrist has been feeling so much better compared to last week,” Millard told St. George News afterward. “I had an absolute blast on the course and I’m always so grateful to be out there.”
Millard, a senior, has had the top individual score in every Region 10 match this season.
Besides Millard, Dixie’s other top scorers were Iris Pead with an 87, Stacie Phelps with a 92 and Cassie Osness with a 105. Together, the top four golfers totaled 354 strokes, which was six strokes better than runner-up Pine View’s 360.
“I could write a novel about how proud I am of my team,” Millard said. “They’ve worked so hard and we’ve come so far, and today we got to show that off. Today was very special and I’ll remember it for a long time to come.”
Pine View was led by Alyssa Butterfus, who shot an 86. Teammate Hallie Wieland finished at 88, while Kenzie Owen and Anique Shirts each scored 93.
Note: even though Green Spring Golf Course is normally a par 72, the sixth hole was shortened to a par 3 for Wednesday’s Region 10 match, thereby dropping the overall par score to 71.
Next week’s Region 10 match, the final one of the regular season, is scheduled for Wednesday at Cedar Ridge Golf Course in Cedar City.
