ST. GEORGE — Desert Hills and Dixie both swept local rivals this week and moved to the top of the Region 10 baseball standings.

Meanwhile, Pine View also posted a sweep and evened its record at 4-4, good for fourth place in the region at the moment.

Three weeks remain in the regular season to determine the region champ and seedings going into the 4A state playoffs.

Following are recaps of the week’s action on the baseball diamonds:

Desert Hills 10, Snow Canyon 6 | Desert Hills 7, Snow Canyon 1

At Desert Hills, the Thunder were down 5-2 after the top of the third inning but outscored the Warriors 8-1 after that to secure the series opener on Tuesday.

Landon Musgrave earned the win for the Thunder in spectacular fashion. The junior left-hander entered the game in relief with the bases loaded and recorded four straight strikeouts to propel Desert Hills to the win.

Desert Hills saw Andrew Wilson and Kyler Terry each net two RBIs in the win while Tyler Mosher and Jake Bean each had a solo RBI. Payton Gubler and Cole Decastro each hit a double.

Meanwhile, Logan Mendenhall drove in two for Snow Canyon in defeat. Hayden Smith, Taylen Kelly and Rider Harrison each had an RBI for the Warriors.

Thursday’s rematch at Snow Canyon was controlled by Desert Hills senior pitcher Payton Gubler. The right-hander yielded one run in the second inning but put up goose eggs in every other frame, allowing only three hits in the contest.

Observers of the game told St. George News that Gubler was slinging 93-94 mph fastballs to shut down the Warriors.

Jake Johnson took the loss for Snow Canyon and Hayden Smith drove in the one Warriors run.

Gubler helped his own cause from the plate, smashing a home run and collecting two RBIs. Kyle Fox also drove in two for the winners. Andrew Wilson, Kyler Terry and Jake Bean accounted for an RBI each for the Thunder.

Desert Hills maintained its second-place position in the Region 10 standings at 5-1 while Snow Canyon slipped to fifth-place at 3-5.

Dixie 15, Crimson Cliffs 6 | Dixie 4, Crimson Cliffs 3 (extra innings)

The Flyers remained unbeaten in the region and did it in dramatic style.

For the Mustangs, Brecken Smith had a double and two RBIs. Tate Maynard drove in two runners and Jayz Estridge and Steele Barben each had one RBI in the setback.

Aaron Morris took the loss on the pitcher’s mound.

Thursday’s rematch at Dixie was a thrilling extra-inning affair as sophomore Logan Leavitt hit a double that scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

A jubilant Leavitt told St. George News after the walk-off win that he had a simple approach in the last at-bat.

“Get a knock,” Leavitt said. “Score a run.”

He noted that he got the perfect pitch to square up on.

“Hanging curve ball, took it the other way,” said Leavitt, adding that it was “just awesome” to beat Crimson Cliffs twice in one week.

Jayden Davis had an RBI for Dixie in the win.

Trey Evans crushed a home run in the top of the first inning to post Crimson Cliffs to an early 2-0 lead. Jayger Baldwin hit a triple for the Mustangs.

The winning pitcher for Dixie was Braxton Yates while Jaiven Ross took the tough loss for the Mustangs.
