ST. GEORGE — The high school track season got off to a strong start at last weekend’s Snow Canyon Invitational.

The two-day event attracted athletes from more than three dozen high schools from around the state. All seven Region 10 schools participated, in addition to several smaller Southern Utah schools as well as larger teams from along the Wasatch Front.

Snow Canyon head coach Justin Redfearn said more than 1,300 athletes took part in the meet, including those belonging to 26 full teams from across all classifications, plus parts of 16 other teams.
“Annually, this meet is now one of the premier meets in Utah, thanks in part to the USATF officials, coaches and parents who help out,” Redfearn said. “According to Milesplit Utah, we had over 63 elite performances. This meet produces some of the fastest times and best distances we will see in the state the whole year.”

Host team Snow Canyon won the boys’ meet, with the Warriors scoring 97 team points to runner-up Pine View’s 54.

On the girls’ side, the Desert Hills Thunder were the highest-placing Southern Utah school, taking third overall with 51 points, behind only Bingham and Box Elder.

Following are some of the top highlights featuring local athletes:
