Focused on comfort and energy efficiency, Visionary Homes are built to last a lifetime

CONTRIBUTED CONTENT — From the planning stages through construction, the award-winning team at Visionary Homes is on a mission to make the entire home-building process as efficient as possible without ever sacrificing quality.

Visionary Homes are built to last a lifetime. Barrett Nelson, the company’s president, said they’re committed to delivering a high standard of construction in Southern Utah that’s as close to perfect as it gets.

Visionary Homes uses their signature “tight fit method” to maximize comfort and energy efficiency by reducing air leaks to an absolute minimum. They glue all of the bottom and top plates of a home’s framing as well as the drywall and the exterior sheeting. They also install a rubber gasket seal around anything that penetrates the exterior walls, like hose bibs and gas lines.

Most builders in Southern Utah don’t see a need for using Tyvek house wrap due to the dry climate, Nelson said. However, Visionary Homes installs Tyvek because it lets the home breathe. Tyvek is a one-way barrier that allows moisture from cooking, showering and other aspects of daily life to escape as needed while blocking the outside elements.

“What we built Visionary Homes on is quality and attention to detail, both in the finishing touches and the places you can’t see,” Nelson said. “We constantly try to be on top of trends and new products to make our homes better, more energy efficient and more livable.”

Nelson lives in Logan but also owns a home in Desert Color: the 2,487-square foot Mojave plan. Like all of the two-story models Visionary Homes builds in Southern Utah, it’s equipped with an HVAC system that cools the upstairs and downstairs living spaces separately. Air conditioners and all other appliances are selected to meet energy efficiency standards for the size of the home.

“Even knowing what we do to build these homes, I have been amazed at how low my utility bills are,” he said.

Adam Ritter, vice president of operations for Visionary Homes, said the company uses R-19 fiberglass insulation in all new builds. While more cost-effective than blown-in or foam products – which are offered to buyers as extras – it’s more than enough to keep the home properly insulated thanks to the “tight fit method.” Fiberglass works optimally when it’s encapsulated and sealed on all six sides.

Visionary Homes installs low-E double-pane windows with argon gas insulation and a U-factor of 0.32. Low-E 366 glass is also an option, and Ritter recommends the enhanced solar control for homes facing southwest.

“We feel pretty strongly about providing people not only with a tight and efficient home, but also we believe in providing them with a healthy home,” he added.

Visionary Homes is currently building in four distinct Southern Utah communities, each suited for a different type of homebuyer. Enjoy resort-style living at Desert Color, where you can choose from condos, townhomes or single-family homes. Get closer to nature in Divario, nestled among miles of trails near Green Valley. Family-friendly amenities abound in Warner Gateway just off the Southern Parkway, while the Azalea Townhomes in Ivins provide gorgeous red rock views at accessible price points.

With a commitment to premium craftsmanship and thoughtful design, Visionary Homes builds houses that buyers are proud to call home. During the 2021 Best of Southern Utah contest, voters awarded the company a gold ribbon in the home builder category and silver among real estate companies.

Unlike many master-planned developments where developers pinch every penny, Visionary Home neighborhoods are focused on lifestyle. Logan-based developers Jeff Jackson and Justin Cooper started the company in 2004 and have grown it into the state’s third largest home builder. Visionary Homes is owned and operated entirely by people who live and work in Utah.
