CONTRIBUTED CONTENT — InfoWest, Southern Utah’s hometown internet service provider since 1994, recently completed a groundbreaking project to bring fast and reliable wireless connectivity to Willow Glen Resort in Enoch. The company leveraged its team of experts to showcase the future of Wi-Fi and the possibilities of staying connected while enjoying the great outdoors.

“The quality of engineers that we have and management that allows us to take care of our customers, whatever it takes, has allowed us to think outside the box and design things like this,” InfoWest IT Services Manager Aaron Hutchings said. “It’s not necessarily about what’s most affordable, but what’s best for the customer – finding the best technology and putting the pieces together to craft the ultimate internet experience.”

Flexibility and collaboration with Alta Labs, another local tech company, were key to the project’s success. Based in Hurricane, Alta Labs designs innovative Wi-Fi solutions for enterprise-grade residential, commercial and outdoor projects around the world. Recently, they’ve been making big waves in the wireless networking space.

Willow Glen’s owners wanted to ensure maximum Wi-Fi coverage throughout their entire property, including the new luxury RV park, so InfoWest and Alta Labs joined forces to implement a system unlike anything else in Southern Utah.

InfoWest installed 40 Alta Labs AP6-Pro-Outdoor Wi-Fi access points across Willow Glen’s 40 RV bays, blanketing the property in wireless connectivity. A fiber line was then connected to each RV bay, connecting via an RJ45 Ethernet port to every access point to keep the radio frequency environment clean and uncomplicated for users.

Willow Glen’s guests can now enjoy the simplicity of a single sign-in that allows for seamless internet access across the resort, eliminating the need to stay confined to their RVs to remain connected. Guests also benefit from Alta Labs’ cutting-edge AltaPass technology, which allows each RV owner to join the same wireless network with their own unique password for enhanced security.

“The success at Willow Glen showcases InfoWest’s capabilities and the future of vacationing with robust connectivity,” Hutchings said. “This collaboration highlights Southern Utah as a tech hub.”

Willow Glen is just the beginning, Hutchings added, emphasizing the enormous potential of similar applications throughout Southern Utah and beyond. This groundbreaking technology can be applied to resorts, multi-dwelling residential units and countless other facilities, effectively addressing longstanding outdoor Wi-Fi and connectivity issues.

InfoWest excels in implementing unique technology in all types of environments. No matter the project, they’re able to devise a solution. Last year, they completed a significant upgrade to the Wi-Fi system at Utah Tech University’s M. Anthony Burns Arena. This was no easy feat given the 43,000-square-foot building’s design: an open space with tall metal beams, highly reflective surfaces, plenty of concrete and minimal infrastructure.

InfoWest installed access points throughout the arena that will flood the entire building with Wi-Fi capable of getting a crowd of up to 5,000 fans online simultaneously. No matter where someone is within the arena, they’ll receive the best signal possible. The entire system is powered by a 10-gigabit fiber backbone that will serve Utah Tech for years to come.

InfoWest, which proudly serves as the go-to internet provider for many of Southern Utah’s largest events, is leading the way in keeping the community connected. Always expanding, the company is currently working on similar projects that aim to upgrade more locations with state-of-the-art Wi-Fi.

“We want to leverage the power and knowledge that we have in this industry over the past 30 years of building Wi-Fi from the ground up to engineer large-scale systems that last,” Hutchings said. “We like a challenge. We like getting Wi-Fi to difficult places. Where others say no, we think out of the box and figure out how we can make it happen.”
