The incident was reported around 5:10 p.m. at the intersection of 2450 East and 40 South that involved a 19-year-old motorcycle rider and a maroon Lexus SUV.

St. George Police Officer Tiffany Mitchell said in a statement that the motorcycle was southbound on 2450 East and allegedly traveling at a high-rate of speed when it struck the side of the sport utility vehicle as it was making a left turn toward 40 South.

“The 19-year-old driver of the motorcycle has died from his injuries, and the driver of the vehicle is injured,” Mitchell wrote.

Access to 2450 East has been closed from 80 North to 40 South, and the intersection at 40 North, as the police department’s accident reconstruction team investigates the crash scene. The public is being asked to avoid the area.

Assisting the St George Police Department at the scene are officers from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Santa Clara-Ivins Police and Hurricane City Police, as well as a local unit from the Utah Department of Transportation.

“Our sincere condolences to everyone affected by this tragedy,” Mitchell said.

This is the latest road fatality in Southern Utah involving a motorcycle. Last month, two riders were killed in Iron and Washington counties.

A 55-year-old man on a motorcycle died in Iron County last month after leaving the road, while a man riding a motorcycle in Washington City was killed when he impacted a Jeep making a left turn.

This report is based on statements from court records, police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
