David Lynn Cottam

David Lynn Cottam, loving father and husband, passed away on July 25, 2024, surrounded by family and friends. David was born Oct. 3, 1944, in St. George, Utah. He was the fifth of 10 children of Owen and Evelyn Cottam.

David moved with his family to Henderson, Nevada, where he graduated from Basic High School. David started his construction experience “hod tending” for his father’s plaster and stucco business. He learned the building trades and worked on many commercial buildings and bridges, eventually starting a construction company with a loyal friend here in Southern Utah. Later David opened Eye Town, in Cedar City, Utah, where he crafted fine eyeglasses until he retired and moved to Toquerville, Utah.

David married Rebecca Phillips in 2007. Their life together was full of service. They served a mission to the St. George LDS Storehouse for 5 ½ years. David served in many callings, including scouting and bishopric. David was big, strong and would do anything he could to help where needed.

David is survived by their combined children: Victoria (Wes) Allison, Pamela (Scott) MacNeille, David Andrew (Tammy), Elizabeth (Dan) Bowman, Justin, Jennifer (Herman) Sandoval, Melody (Dave) Edison, Samantha (Robert) Barth, Leslie Cox, Lisa (Danny) Lloyd, Eric (Angel) Cox, 33 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 1, at 11 a.m. Viewing will be from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the LDS chapel, 600 E. Telegraph St., Washington, Utah. Interment will follow at the Toquerville, Utah Cemetery.
