ST. GEORGE — The Washington County Water Conservancy District issued emergency water restrictions for the town of Virgin on Sunday.
According to a media release, a pump failure is the cause of the call for restrictive water usage among residents.
“Due to the failure of a pump in Toquerville that pumps water from a well in Toquerville up to Virgin, Virgin is currently on restricted usage of water to essential usage only,” Washington County Water Conservancy District said.
Residents in Virgin are being asked to immediately limit water usage for essential purposes after the district’s well failed on July 13.

The water district is asking residents to avoid watering outdoors, the alert stated.
“Residents may continue to shower, wash dishes and do laundry while being mindful of water use during these activities,” the alert said. “Crews are troubleshooting the issue and all repair work will be expedited. A second well that serves the town is currently in repair and is anticipated to come back online later this week.”
In the meantime, Virgin residents will be receiving water from the conservancy that is stored in the district’s system. Local authorities are also working on measures to reduce usage, the release said.
“The district is working with Virgin and other communities to decrease system demands to extend this storage as the timeline for repairs is currently unknown,” the alert said. “The district is working with repair specialists and suppliers and will provide updates as more information becomes available. The district appreciates everyone’s cooperation as it works to resolve the problem.”
