AnnaMae Appel

Jan. 21, 1936-July 2, 2024

On July 2, 2024, our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, AnnaMae Appel, peacefully passed away at the age of 88 and a half. She was a proud Utah native born to George Fenton and Lettie Whitney.

AnnaMae was deeply loved in her hometown of Hurricane, Utah, where her kindness and warmth touched the lives of many. She married Larry Meeks, and from their union came six children: Linda (Hurstle), Randy (Kanna), Terry (Vicki), Kevin (Rhonda) and Shawn (Deb). AnnaMae’s legacy lives on through her 14 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her son Dennis.

Later in life, she found happiness with Don Appel. Don brought seven children into AnnaMae’s life: Pam (Bob), Catherine, Donna (Mike), John (Kathy), David (Suzy), Donald (Gail) and Daniel (deceased) (Mareena, Sherry). AnnaMae embraced them all as her own, creating bonds of love and respect.

AnnaMae was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, finding joy and purpose in her service, particularly in the temple alongside Don. She cherished the companionship of her sisters on their weekly temple trips, a bond that brought her great joy.

AnnaMae had a passion for travel, creating treasured memories on annual trips with her sisters and making friends wherever she went. She delighted in family reunions and gatherings.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, July 7, from 5-7 p.m., at Serenity Funeral Home, 1316 South 400 East Suite A-5, St. George, Utah. Graveside services will follow on Monday, July 8, at 10 a.m. at the Hurricane City Cemetery.
