ST. GEORGE — The Washington City Rotary Club continued a three-year tradition this week after donating funds to the Food Bank of Southern Utah.
“Working with Washington City, we started the Mayor’s Cup golf tournament,” president Scott Florence told St. George News.
“This is the third year we’ve done it and the majority of the proceeds go to the Food Bank,” he added.
Along with other Rotarians, Florence recently presented a $3,000 check to Southern Utah Distribution Center Director Jacob Miner.

“The other money that we raised went to local nonprofits that we support,” Florence said. “The Mayor’s Cup is the club’s major annual fundraiser and the Food Bank is the major recipient. It gets the biggest amount of funding.”
Florence said that Washington City Rotary Club also has a monthly service engagement with the Food Bank’s mobile pantry that stops in Washington City.
As has been reported previously in St. George News, former Washington City Mayor Ken Nielsen played a role in generating momentum for the first few Mayor’s Cup golf tournaments.
The annual event takes place at the Green Spring Golf Course in Washington City. For more information on the Rotary Club in Washington City, visit their website at this link.
