ST. GEORGE — A semitractor-trailer caught fire Wednesday morning, which prompted the closure of both northbound lanes of Interstate 15 south of Kanarraville. Responders are battling the blaze and working to remove the wreckage from the roadway.
Updated Wednesday at 1:13 p.m.; The northbound side of I-15 is expected to reopen at 2 p.m., according to an update by the Utah Highway Patrol.
Shortly after 11:20 a.m., the Utah Department of Transportation issued an alert advising the northbound side of I-15 near mile marker 33, approximately 9 miles south of Kanarraville, has been temporarily closed after a semi caught fire.
Multiple responders from the Utah Highway Patrol, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and two fire departments are on scene, along with the UDOT’s incident management team that assisted with the closure. Motorists are encouraged to take an alternate route while responders tend to the scene.
Both northbound lanes are expected to reopen by 2 p.m., the UDOT alert states.
