The incident was reported shortly after noon just west of the overpass where state Route 130 (Main Street) crosses over Interstate 15 at Exit 62. It involved a green Lexus sedan and a gray Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.
Cedar City Police Sgt. Tim Bonzo said the Lexus driver was attempting to turn left from 2400 North onto northbound SR-130 when it was struck by the pickup truck, which had been heading south on SR-130.
“The pickup truck was traveling in toward town, southbound, and struck the car on the rear of the driver side and flipped it around,” Bonzo told Cedar City News at the scene.
No injuries were reported, he added, noting that the drivers were checked out by Gold Cross Ambulance personnel on scene but nobody was transported.
Bonzo said the female driver of the Lexus would be cited for not yielding while making a left turn.
Traffic along the moderately busy interchange was impacted by slight delays, including a temporary lane closure, for approximately 30 minutes while responders worked to clear the scene. Both vehicles were rendered inoperable and needed to be towed.
In addition to multiple Cedar City Police officers, a Utah Highway Patrol trooper and an Iron County Sheriff’s deputy also responded.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings.
