FEATURE — Ready or not, change has come.

On Friday, Feb. 9, a new moon at 20 degrees Aquarius will occur at 3:58 p.m. MDT and serve as the first supermoon of 2024.

New moons initiate a fresh lunar cycle, signifying new beginnings and a time to plant seeds for what you wish to culminate over the next 28 days. A new moon in Aquarius, however, is unlike all other new moons due to the unconventional, avant-garde nature of the sign.

While often confused as a water sign, Aquarius is a fixed air sign. Air signs are associated with the intellect, communications and ideologies. Its symbol, the Water Bearer, is pictured as a person pouring water, which represents the dispensing of life-giving water for all to enjoy.

But Aquarius is also associated with electric energy and universal thought. Sometimes given a bad rap for its detached nature, Aquarius uses this objectivity to see through a situation otherwise muddied by emotions and envision a resolution. Their unusual approach can be misunderstood, as it strays from the norm and is often ahead of its time.

Aquarius is not afraid to challenge the status quo, to ask why and make change for the greater good of humanity.

The influence of Aquarian energy can be seen when people come together to work for a greater cause. Aquarius reminds us of our own humanity, pushing us into the streets to make real changes in our communities. But as a sign of paradoxes, this collaborative effort does not mean blurring into a backdrop of crowded faces; Aquarius seeks to maintain its individuality, to be a part of the group but also seen for its unique authenticity.

And this is what this new moon is all about: celebrating one’s uniqueness, while also celebrating one another. It shows us that we need not be the same to love our neighbor.

But this new moon also indicates rapid, surprise change, as it forms a square with Uranus in Taurus. The planetary ruler of Aquarius, Uranus is a planet associated with the electric spark that spurs progressive ideas and movements. It balks at tradition and upturns outdated ideals.

So what does all of this mean for you? Find out below.
