Performance Player of the Month: Dixie High School’s Kyle Lemke

ST. GEORGE — We’re back to highlighting exceptional student-athletes throughout Southern Utah with all new episodes of “Performance Player of the Month.”

This month’s episode features Dixie High School basketball star Kyle Lemke. Devin Dixon with The Fan Sports Network and St. George News Sports joined him on home court to catch up.

Lemke made the varsity team as a sophomore and has since grown into a leadership role for the Flyers. Now a senior, he’s among the highest-scoring players in 4A boys basketball throughout the state, with an average of 21.3 points per game.

“I know that there’s some kids that look up to me, so I just try to be the best leader out there,” he said.

His favorite athlete is LeBron James, whom he boldly declares is the greatest basketball player of all time (followed by Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant). In his daily life, his role model is his older brother, whom he followed into the sport.

After graduating, he’ll be heading north to attend Snow College. He was courted by larger schools like Utah Tech University and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, but he wanted to start his first year of college hoops with as much playing time as possible to further develop his offensive skills.

When he’s not on the basketball court, he enjoys video games, particularly Rainbow Six Siege. He’s good friends with not only his teammates but also players from other local schools, including Crimson Cliffs and Pine View – at least until game time.

Lemke’s favorite memory from his high school career so far was his first “poster dunk” against Hurricane during his sophomore year. His advice to future Dixie Flyers who dream of making it to the varsity, collegiate or even professional leagues?

“If you want to get there, work hard.”
