The Penske truck was traveling south on Interstate 15 near mile marker 10, by the exit to the Eagles Landing Travel Plaza, when the driver saw a car he was at risk of hitting, said Beaver Dam/Littlefield Fire District Chief Jeff Hunt.

“He looked down — he said there was a car and he just turned because he didn’t want to, as he said, “Kill anybody,”‘ Hunt told St. George News. “But he still hit the car. He turned so hard with that Penske truck, it just rolled on its side and the roof of the truck box popped open.”

The driver was helping a family member move and many of their personal belongings spilled out onto the roadway, he said.

There were two people in the car and neither reported serious injuries, refusing transport. The incident occurred at approximately 5:12 p.m.

The truck’s driver and his passenger were transported by a Beaver Dam/Littlefield ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries, Hunt said.

Both southbound lanes were blocked, but traffic continued flowing via the emergency lane. Hunt said cleaning up the family member’s belongings could take some time.

“Somebody’s everything is in that box truck,” he said.

The Arizona Highway Patrol, Mohave County Sheriff’s Office and Arizona Department of Transportation also responded to the scene.

This report is based on statements from police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
