WASHINGTON CITY — A quick stop at a gas station on Saturday might mean a $500 gift card and also help someone locally dealing with domestic violence.
The Washinton City Police Department and the family of a Heber City woman killed in July 2022, in what is suspected to be a domestic violence murder, are holding a raffle from 2 to 5 p.m. on Nov. 18 at the First Stop Sinclair at, 195 E. Telegraph Street in Washington City.
Julie Ann Burns was killed in her home, while police said her two children were told to “close their eyes.” Her boyfriend was charged with the murder and police said there was a history of domestic violence. After a manhunt, that man was found dead a month later in Oregon from a self-inflicted gunshot.
Saturday would have been Burns’ 38th birthday. Jennifer DeMille, a friend of Burns’ sister, said all the proceeds of the raffle will go to help local people dealing with domestic violence.
“We just want to bring awareness to domestic violence and get out word that you don’t need to keep quiet and stand up,” DeMille said.
Each raffle ticket is $5 or three for $10 with the top prize a $500 Sinclair card that could go to gas or items in Sinclair stores. There are also additional gift baskets and gift cards as prizes.
